Setting Up
At the start of each chapter you will be shown where to place upcoming story tiles, each is marked with its difficulty rating and type of challenge with many unwise to try early on.
Some events are hidden, with just the storyteller aware of them. Other events will lead to further events and challenges. When the player feels they have accomplished enough they finish with the level boss.
Story Animation
Using the book as a guide your job is to bring the characters to life, feel free to add voices, ask questions of the player and deviate from the script even. This is a pretty flexible story so have fun with it.
Gameplay
The “You” character is like the king in chess, they cannot take a hit or the game should be over. However, you may decide to be lenient and agree a number of shields per chapter.
Each challenge will be different and some routes through the game are more difficult than others. Mainly though the player will move each of your characters once before your opponents, theirs.
Opposition and Surprises
As well as storyteller you will also be the opponent. In the book you may see text options ‘be kind’ and ‘be fun’, you may wish to consider implementing depending on the players age, ability and taste for carnage.

You may not want to know too much yourself but if you feel you would rather know more about the motivations or likely outcomes of events in the story then you may read the upside-down ‘prompts’ throughout.
